3. Examination

Range of motion, spinal function, orthopaedic exam, neurological exam, observation of your tongue, pulse and body diagnosis.

3. Postural assessment and weight distribution.

When the body is positioned correctly there is a minimal strain on the muscles, ligaments, bones, and joints, your internal organs are not compressed, blood vessels are not pressed, nerves are not irritated. This allows your body to function at its best.

This balanced position causes the least strain on your spine and its supporting muscles and ligaments. For example if your head is just 2cms forward of this balanced position it increases the strain on your shoulder and neck muscles 10 times.

Increasing the stress and strain on your spine in this way can contribute significantly to a number of painful or limiting dysfunctions in your spine. These include arthritis and degenerative changes, disc injuries, nerve irritation and muscle and ligament injury. For this postural assessment the Spinal Assessment Machine is used which also measures the weight distribution between your feet.

4. Computer spinal scanning

The Thames Clinic uses the latest healthcare technologies in order to accurately assess the function of your nervous system. These non invasive scans are carried out before starting care, and regularly while under care, in order to monitor each person's progress.

Thermal Scan

The Insight™ Thermal Scanner assesses autonomic nervous system function by measuring temperature imbalances on the skin. On the scan, green, blue and red colors indicate mild, moderate and severe levels of stress on the related nerves.

SEMG (segmental electromyography) explanation

Muscle usage produces electrical activity which is detected by the scanner. Below is an example of a patient's muscle asymmetry scan. It depicts the amount of muscle pull from one side to another. Normal is marked by white spikes or no spikes at all. Green, blue and red spikes represent mild, moderate and severe levels of muscle imbalance respectively.

5. X-RAY

The clinic has the latest high frequency X-ray equipment. Your specific condition may require us to take X-rays to assist us in developing the most effective care plan for you.
